1. Why do you think Uncle Jeb tell Wanderer that Jared and Jamie never made it to the caves? Well, I think he was being cautious. I mean, he knew she wasn't Mel anymore (well, so he thought) and didn't want her knowing that there were more people still free.
2. When Jeb tells Wanderer/Melanie that Jared and Jamie are not there their response is:
“No,” we whispered. We were not echoing him, we were protesting against getting our life back. What was the point? We closed our eyes and listened to the pain in our body. We let that drown out the pain in our mind.”
In the last chapter we saw Wanderer and Melanie referring to themselves collectively, but this seems to be to an even greater degree. Do you think that Wanderer considers Melanie’s life hers now (or at least hers and Melanie’s)? Who do you think is in control during this portion of the book? Has Melanie’s fervency taken over Wanderer? Is there any way to tell? I think that Mel has taken over Wanda's emotions but not her thoughts. Mel has been very strong ever since

1. I think he didn't want her to know.. Maybe on the cautious side but also, maybe he hadn't decided to tell Jared about Wanda/Mel yet so if he had told her now, and not tell Jared later, it'd be brining her hopes up for nothing.
2. They're together for so long and under the worst conditions and circumstances.. It's more like they bonded. They're both in control and they both want the same things though, it may not be for the same reasons.
3. Yes. I thought everyone, with the exception of Jeb, would hate Wanda but I turned out wrong. And not forgetting that Kyle eventually warmed up to Wanda too so yea... (thanks, audrey_potter4. Honestly, I didn't pause to think about that. I was just anxious to get to the next chapter. LOL
