Smells

Okay, first of all, everyone on my friends list must download the song in the entry prior to this one. Not only is it HILARIOUS, but it is also AWESOME TO THE XTREME. It's about how insano CA and Mexico are. Hah.

In other creepy news...

You know how smells remind you of people or places? Like, for me, camp fires remind me of Michigan, wet construction sites remind me of Ground Zero, and melon reminds me of summer. You get my drift.

Well today, I've been smelling Jim in the hospital. This is weird...bear with me...the last time I really saw his body (I say that because I caught a glimpse of it in his casket at the wake from the balcony) was in the hospital. He was all hooked up to machines, including a respirator. When I got up close to his mouth, where the tube was, there was a certain odor. I don't even know what that smell was. It was something "hospital-y" though. But it doesn't smell like a hospital.

Yea, that smell. I've been getting whiffs (how do you spell that?) of it all day. Like, it's following me. I first noticed it in my car up here in Carlsbad. Then when I was at the 5/805 split in La Jolla. I don't know what it is, but I don't like it because it reminds me of Jim, dead, in the hospital.

Totally reminds me of that wet concrete/construction smell that brings me back to the days/weeks/months following 9/11. I volunteered down at a respite center, and I worked on Centre Street, so I was in the area every day post-9/11.

So weird how smells, sounds, EVERYTHING is connected. And the memories brought up are so STRONG, moreso than just a shadow.
