Post-gig recovery

Feb 21, 2010 17:45

Utterly shattered today. Currently sipping fruit juice to try and rehydrate myself a bit.

Last night was my third gig with Swallow, and it was pretty intense. They don't like to stick with the same set twice, there's always two or three numbers we haven't done before. It keeps things fresh and builds up a repertoire. Of course, some of them they have done before with the previous drummer, so it's just me struggling to keep up....

But I'm getting to play a lot of stuff I wouldn't have had the chance to play otherwise, which is joyous. Between Swallow and Run Like Hell I'm now having to give my best impressions of Ian Paice (Deep Purple), John Bonham (Led Zeppelin), Mitch Mitchell (Jimi Hendrix Experience), Ginger Baker (Cream), Cozy Powell (Rainbow, at least on this occasion), Neil Peart (Rush) and Phil Collins (Genesis), among others. That's a lot of fairly legendary drumming talent to live up to, but it's so much fun trying. :-) Rush's Limelight made it's debut last night; it's not spot-on yet but I'm unbelievably happy with how well it's turned out so far.

Go splat now...
