Dear Yuletide Author.

Oct 20, 2013 17:09

Thank you so much for writing me a story!

I'm sorry that I didn't post my yuletide letter earlier (I wavered back and forth a dozen times between too much information and too little), but I hope that you find this by your internet-foo and know beforehand that I will love and appreciate anything that you write for me, so feel free to ignore anything below that doesn't fit your inspiration.

General Likes and Dislikes

Gen fic is awesome, but het/slash/femslash/poly (threesomes! I love threesomes) when I like all the characters in the equation is wonderful too. I am not especially kinky; I can respect and enjoy dubcon/noncon/hatesex that doesn't romanticise; I am pretty unsentimental about sex, pregnancy and children. Sometimes, I actively avoid mpreg, pwp, h/c, domestic!fic and A/B/O.

Other things I like: AUs (all the Firefly and Pacific Rim AUs!) and crossovers (you can browse my fandoms through my tags starting from "fic", AO3, or tumblr), character-centric pieces, characters being emotionally intelligent, competence, female-female friendships, unapologetic and amoral anti-heroes, world-building/scene-setting, SCIENCE, ensembles, characters existing in a web of connections, obligations and relationships.

Fast and the Furious

Out of the entire FATF franchise, my favourite characters are Han, Gisele, Dom, and Neela; my favourite movie from the franchise is Tokyo Drift. So take from that what you will. I don't ship Dom/Brian or Sean/Han, because I dislike Brian and especially Sean as characters, but background Dom/Han is fine. Han and Gisele, however, are my OTP. I would love canon-compliant adventures, or the AU where both survive, but anything that explores these two, separately or together, would be lovely.

Dance Academy

I would love to see Abigail and Ollie after where the show left them, dancing for the Australian Ballet, set either immediately after or some years later. Are they still dancing for the same company? Are they still close and in touch with the rest of the gang from Sydney? How have their relationships and careers evolved and where have their ambitions and passions taken them?

I always think of a line (don't remember which episode in early S3) where Abigail and Ollie acknowledge that Sammy loved them both, and possibly was attracted to the same thing in both - their projection of confidence, their passion, their talent, their outward bitchiness/inward insecurities. So some mention of Sammy as the person who made their close friendship possible would be great.

Luther

Writer, if you could write me post-series John/Alice, I would be ecstatic. I would like to see Alice help John to find his happiness, and for John to continue being Alice's heart and lodestone. Mentions of or appearances from Zoe, Mark North, Jenny Jones, Mary Day, Eric Gray, and the rest of the supporting cast would be adored. I am especially fascinated by the complicated familial/romantic/platonic circle of John/Alice/Mark/Jenny/Mary. A touch of the surreal or macabre, a la the show and its comic book influences, wouldn't be out of place.

La Femme Nikita

LFN was one of my earliest fandoms, and the Operations/Madeline // Nikita/Michael nest of vipers formative to my shipping preferences. The tensions between individual and community, desires and duty, which have always fascinated me, are drawn out particularly clearly in LFN.

I've been carrying around this quotation from Wassily Kandinsky in my notebook for a couple of years now: "Black is like the silence of the body after death, the close of life." It seems particularly apt for characters who spend so much time mourning, who speak to us through absence (of words, of looks, or visible emotions) as much as through presence, and who look so very stylish whilst doing it. :)
