Travelling
Windy, bright, chilly. Sydney in late Autumn. I arrive back yesterday morning, on an overnight flight from Shanghai, stomach growling and cold to the bone from hunger (Air China cabin food in Economy Class does not agree with me at all). Note to self: must go grocery shopping.
Tomorrow, I'm headed up to Newcastle on the train to attend an event, staying the night, before returning the day after. Which means the earliest I can visit an Apple Genius Bar to get my Macbook checked out (the screen is still broken, and flickers more often than not) is Friday.
Work
Was given the unusual task of translating a passage adapted from Confucius (by my father, and written as calligraphy to be given as a gift). I have rendered it as follows:
"They who are benevolent should not be worried or heavy-hearted.
They who are resourceful are free from perplexities.
They who are politically strong should not rule by force."
A bit old-fashioned, perhaps, but given the intended audience...
Makeup
Guerlain Rouge Automatique in Chamade (a beautiful, bright rose-pink) is the most short-lived lipstick I've ever bought. This nifty litle thing has the intriguing design feature of being opened by the slide of a finger, meaning you can apply your lipstick with just one hand. However, mine lasted all of 12 hours before I accidentally held it the wrong way whilst opening (counterintuitively, you slide the buttom down to bring the lipstick up), bent the lipstick against the palm of my hand, which subsequently caused it to break and fall out of the tube. Ah well, it was lovely while it lasted - amazing colour, very moisturising and comfortable on the lips. Still, while I admit to being fairly careless with my things, I question the wisdom of putting something so soft and breakable in an over-complicated case. As for what is left of my Rouge Automatique, the colour is too pretty to waste so I am depotting it into a small tub so I can still use it with a lipbrush.
