Mazikeen of the Lilim

1. There is no contradiction between having an unsurpassably strong sense of self and the genuine desire to devote all your energies to the wishes of another person. One is only possible when there is the other. Mazikeen serves the Morningstar - not his cause or his station, but his person. Maybe it was mostly hero-worship to start with, or a feeling of being indebted to Lucifer for saving her life once (in "Lilith"), but it developed over the millenia into more than that. Mazikeen is the original high priestess of the Church of Lucifer.

2. She is also, in both the carnal and the intellectual sense, Lucifer's consort and partner. She is aware of more of his secrets and inner-most thoughts than anybody else (save Yahweh himself). At first, she used to imagine Lilith being with him, Lilith kissing the same lips that she kissed, Lilith's silken legs wrapped around his waist, propping herself up on an elbow as she listened to his confessions. Mazikeen learns to be that for him and more: his lieutenant, his bodyguard, his shadow...his heir.

3. It amuses her to be underestimated, and both her stature and her sex aid in that deception. When the demon gentry fumbled over what to call her, when they forgot that she was there, always hovering at the edges of the room, it amused her lord, as well. It was one of the private, silent jokes that they shared in Hell.

4. Mazikeen doesn't how she should act around Elaine. The previous Creator and she never had any heart to hearts, and Mazikeen has never (to her knowledge) had a niece.

5. The philosophy of the Stoics, particularly Marcus Aurelius, is always in mind when I write Mazikeen. Both Mazikeen and Lucifer are distainful toward dramatic outbursts of emotion, although neither are without their passions. Her actions speak louder than her words. She is a perfect example the still waters that run deep.
