Ripley (the new Macbook Pro I ordered last week) has been detained by FedEx here in Shanghai, over a clearance delay, since Monday. This is terrible for many reasons, not the least of which is that, as I told Dae, depending on whether it takes more after Ellen or Tom, Ripley has probably by now either massacred her way to freedom or has disappeared under a new name and a false identity.
What is not helping matters is that I am thoroughly fed up with how ineffective customer service here in China is. It took me about a dozen phone calls, to something like 5 different numbers, before I managed to track down somebody who could tell me: a) what the reason for the delay was, b) what I needed to do to get my laptop delivered, and c) who I should be contacting about getting the package through customs clearance.
Hopefully it (she/he?) will be in my hands within the next couple of days.
