Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, James McAvoy, Ian McKellen and Natalie Portman have reportedly been offered parts in Tom Tykwer's (Run Lola Run, Heaven) adaptation of David Mitchell's award-winning novel, Cloud Atlas. The novel is made up of six separate, but loosely connected, narratives, located in different timeframes.
A reluctant voyager crossing the Pacific in 1850; a disinherited composer blagging a precarious livelihood in between-the-wars Belgium; a high-minded journalist in Governor Reagan's California; a vanity publisher fleeing his gangland creditors; a genetically modified dinery server on death-row; and Zachry, a young Pacific Islander witnessing the nightfall of science and civilisation -- the narrators of Cloud Atlas hear each other's echoes down the corridor of history, and their destinies are changed in ways great and small.
So far, none of these actors have been confirmed. I've had the novel sitting on my shelf for years, unfinished, so I'd be interested to hear from someone who has read it, what they think of the casting. Who do you think they'll play? (The Playlist)
Paul Bettany (Creation, Legion) and Simon Baker (The Mentalist) are in talks to join the cast of Margin Call, an indie drama that revolves around employees of an investment bank during a tumultuous 24-hour period during the 2008 financial collapse.
