Thanks. This was something I had to write this Easter break, while I was on my DW marathon and the voices were still in my head.

Now that the heavy lifting's done, though, and I have worked out the reason for the Tams to be in the camp, I want to write little scenes of them meeting all the other denizens: Seth and Sol, Martha and the children, Jane and Charlie... I want to show Wu overcoming his prejudices and being kind to River, Merrick and Blazanov being let in on the secret that they are sheltering fugitives.

This is fantastic. The weird little alliances being formed (no pun intended) and River and Simon just being River and Simon (bootlaces!) I always enjoy watching them be underestimated by whatever/whoever they're facing; because Simon is silk and careful hands on the outside, but really he's made of iron.

I've never watched Deadwood, but I like your Al. I'd read more of this, eagerly.

I'd chanced across one or two Deadwood/Firefly crossover before, but never one which took into account the Tam's clearly-Asian names, or the fact that in a 19th century American mining town with a significant Chinese population, their cultural identities might be quite fluid and open to negotiation. With all the cultural appropriation issues in Firefly at the back of my mind, it seemed like something worth exploring.

There will have to be some follow-up vignettes, I think. :)
