Hello, usually I lurk on your journal for trailer news and True Blood mentions but I find myself compelled to ask why The Dumas Club is a book that will stick with you?

I read it when I was in my teens, and the characters stuck with me so vividly: Corso, and the Girl. It was also the first book I read that was about people who were OBSESSED with books, who lived and killed and built their entire lives around these historical objects and treasures. I'm nowhere near as obsessive as some of the collectors in the novel, but I've always had that love of books - not just reading them, but possessing them. And there's also the across-genre attraction of the story, the intertextuality of it, the way it plays with mystery novel conventions, but ultimately deals with more abstract themes like knowledge, and evil.

Ha, I'm re-reading Jingo at the moment ... I do love the way Pratchett deals with race.

Maybe because I love all the inappropriate humour, but I think it's one of his funniest books. :)
