When I was in London over the (Australian) summer, I wandered into a comicbook shop right across from the British Museum, and not just because it was bloody cold and I was waiting for someone. As well as a signed Dave McKean book that I thought so_spiffed might like, I picked up for myself out of the new releases the Underworld: Rise of the Lycans movie tie-in graphic novel. So sue me! I love the White Wolf Vampire mythology, and the movie, which I saw today, may as well be called Vampire: The Dark Ages. Bill Nighy (Viktor) does such fabulous scenery chewing, Michael Sheen (Lucian) is a suitably anguished action hero, Rhona Mitra (Sonja) is darkly beautiful, and Steven Mackintosh - well, you see why Tanis might be the sort to survive so long and make side deals with Lycans. In short, I had a lot of fun.

Here, have a Bill Nighy interview:
"They put me in a skirt which always has a very profound effect on me. It is very liberating. I recommend it. Except in the wet. The problem with genre movies is everything is wet. You forget that. So when I said: 'Yes, I will wear a full length velvet skirt' it sounded like a good idea until I got on set."

Video interview with Brendan Fraser, Paul Bettany and director Iain Softley (Skeleton Key) about the fantasy adventure Inkheart, which also stars Helen Mirren, Andy Serkis, Jim Broadbent and Sienna Guillory. Another one with just Bettany, who reveals that Jennifer Connelly has a cameo in the film as Dustfinger's wife. [imdb]

Watchmen goes viral.

Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz) is directing an adaptation of graphic novel Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, starring Michael Cera (Juno) as a young slacker who meets the woman of his dreams (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) but finds he can win her heart only by battling and defeating her seven evil exes. Four of them will be played by Chris Evans (Sunshine), Brandon Routh (Superman Returns), Mae Whitman (In Treatment) and Satya Bhabha. Also included in the ensemble are Brie Larson, Mark Webber, Ellen Wong, Alison Pill, Aubrey Plaza and Anna Kendrick. (THR) [imdb]
