The hardest thing.
...about going away is saying goodbye to the dogs. I'm not very emotional towards people, could take or leave them, to be perfectly honest, but I feel lonesome (not myself) without Wolf and Lance. And when one of them is getting on 14-years-old, and the other is just under one-year-old (and prone to separation anxiety), I hate to have to miss even a month of their lives.
