A shorter
new trailer for The Golden Compass at Apple Trailers. The fantasy adaptation, directed by Chris Weitz (About a Boy), stars Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, Dakota Blue Richards, Eva Green and Sam Elliott. (And if you don't like the spoilery picture heading the post - tough! It's one of the things that made the book for me, how complex and adult that relationship was.) [

Matt Zoller Seitz reviews Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix:
"There's nothing in Phoenix as unexpected and splendid as the way Alfonso Cuaron directed the time-travel sequences in The Prisoner of Azkaban... But Phoenix is more consistently delightful from start to finish than any previous Potter movie. It is to this series what The Empire Strikes Back was to the Star Wars series: authentically dark with a light touch."
I love how he describes Gary Oldman's Sirius as "wise and gentle yet intangibly, irrefutably badass", and Alan Rickman as the "Thomas Crown of character acting: there's no scene he can't steal."
