NICOLE KIDMAN AND PAUL BETTANY AS MRS. COULTER AND LORD ASRIEL?!?

This incredible bit of casting is not finalised or verified by the studio, but certainly seems within the realm of possibility. It's been reported by the Daily Mail in London and is circulating on several fansites for the books:

AREN'T THEY JUST DIVINE! I swear Paul as Lord Asriel was the first thing that I thought of this morning when I woke up.

I forget, though, are they still taking out the God part and thus negating the entire point of the series?

I don't know. Hopefully it was just a misunderstanding, and somebody confused "God" with "the creator", who are after all two different entities in the books - that's the whole point.
