You know when you get that problem as a fandom-goer where you want all these things to happen in a very specific way but canon makes it very very difficult, and so you're sort of left fumbling through half-formed AUs where maybe this or that could happen and things are marginally better but it's never precisely all better?

SUCH WAS MY PROBLEM. I wanted two things: Rinzler and Sam to go off all adorbs-happy-ending together, at the same time as I wanted Flynn and Tron being all adorbs-buddybuddy-Grid-bffs. These things do not seem to coexist very peacefully. Besides that I think I was a little shattered by the idea of Flynn ceasing to exist. Like, man, you should've seen me when I walked out of the theatre. And the really marvelous thing is, the idea of Tron and Rinzler as seperate beings never actually occurred to me and it fixes everything.

Um, I think this might be adopted as permanent headcanon for me? And if for any reason fic ever pours itself out of my brain and shows up in the collective Tron fandom, I'll be owing you quite a bit of credit, I think, because these ideas are not going away holy crap.

Before I stop babbling, let me just say that this?

Because when he looks at the code, he can see more than just Tron. He can see his reflection in a shiny helmet, can hear a low purr, feel a gaze on his back, can feel the plea for help.

This actually made me choke up. But in the good way. Thank you for that, you may have actually made my night.

After seeing Legacy for a third time, I hunkered down with some friends and we started mapping out this whole world of where the Grid would go from there, and we had so many ideas as to how to kind of redeem, revive and rejuvenate characters.

If you've ever seen Nightmare Before Christmas, there is a moment when Jack Skellington has a picture of himself as the pumpkin king, and has a sheet of tracing paper with a pictuer of a Santa suit, and when he puts the paper over the picture, it turns him from the pumpkin king to a Santa. Basically, I saw Tron as the picture and Rinzler as the tracing paper. Separate entities, the picture is complete, but the design on the paper isn't, but if you take them apart, you can just fill in the blanks on the paper. So that's what happened in my brain with Tron and Rinzler.

I will continue to write with this train of thought, and by all means, do so yourself, too. I love Rinzler so much, and I see so much potential for him, but the first thing I needed to do was lay down a world where he can be his own person in ways that he isn't in the film. //now i'm babbling too wheeee

Anyway, tl;dr, I'm creating a fanon pocket universe from the ground up and in it Rinzler and Sam will have the happy and Flynn and Tron will have the happy and everyone will be happy. (Also, Ed Dillinger Jr may show up and he will probably be awesome.)

/makes noises all over this

I know that moment, and that idea fits beautifully. I think Rinzler sort of yanked on my heart from the very beginning? The whole pet-monster thing really got me, I think, and he is a really fantastic character for all his lack of development and mashing him and Tron together into one concept might work, I think, but you'd be losing so much of both of them-- seperating them into two characters gives so much more room to work with, two character-boxes, if you will, and Rinzler's is new and shiny and with so much space to fill, and that's awesome. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO BABBLE, I ENJOY THE BABBLING.

Can we just have ages and ages of fic about Dillinger Junior? I mean. His little face. I'm just saying.
