Dressing up the Sage!

Jul 09, 2005 16:08

Well, now that Yuuri's gone, and Alarik has left to pick up Ulrike, it's my turn to get ready.

*walks to wardrobe and pulls out a hanging clothes bag, a small cloth bag, a large flat square-shaped box and a long rectangular box, he lays everything out on the bed and looks it over again*

*bites his lip, more than a little nervous* This isn't the sort of thing I would ever wear in this life. But it is a party....

*sighs and starts struggling into the top and pants several minutes later he finally gets them on and pulls on the boots from the larger box over the pants*

*from the cloth bag he draws a number of long black hair extensions, each ending in a black bead and several feathers to match the wings. He carefully ties them into his hair, spacing them out so that they lie evenly about his shoulders*

*he then picks up the part of the costume that had been most difficult to acquire ((no pic unfortunately T_T)), but was certainly his favourite. He slides the shoulder straps on, then the elbow straps, and finally slips the small finger loops over the middle finger of each hand. Now a thin strip of material runs from the back of each hand along the back of his arms and across his shoulderblades; from it hangs layers of glossy black feathers that are widest across his back, but narrows down to single, long primary feathers on each hand*

*finally comes the mask ((side view)), he lifts it carefully from the lined box and places it over his face, turning to look at the complete effect in the mirror*

Wow...not bad *smiles beneath the mask* I wonder what Alarik will think? He s yet to see the costume on me, though he knows it is a Raven's form I will be taking.

*twirls around to grab his full length hooded cloak, setting the hair extensions flying about his head. He drapes it over his costume carefully and pulls up the hood to completely conceal the outfit*

*strides off to the ballroom*

The Raven/Crow

The raven symbolizes filial gratitude and affection, wisdom, hope, longevity, death, and fertility. In alchemy, it represents change and the advanced soul dying to this world. It remains a frequently used symbol in modern magic, witchcraft, and mystery.

"It is assumed to be the brains of the bird world, its deep, sonorous, penetrating voice demands immediate attention and respect."

The bird's differing reputation as a trickster in the East may stem from the sense of humour and play that both crows and ravens seemingly possess.

Some prefer to see the birds as family/friend orientated. As flexible, adaptive, and curious birds that incite intelligence. They seem to have a thirst for knowledge, always testing out new things for advantages and efficiency.

In a different cycle of myths, it is Raven who swallows the Moon, and he insinuates himself into the world of human beings by transforming into a mere pine needle.
