If you see me on LJ kick me

I need to spend all day finishing up a more or less final draft of my capstone for my defense next week! Whooooo!

Since I watched like three episodes of Pushing Daisies yesterday (there was no TV last night thanks to the stupid National Championships, in which I hear Butler sucked hard), I got next to nothing done in Japanese. Still need to finish rewriting the essay and actually write my lesson plan, gather my materials, and do my damn translations.

Also for the benefit of everyone, George Takei Tweets Out on Whitewashed Akira. So when I said I could only see disaster when I heard about the live-action Akira, this was sadly not one of the things that occurred to me to make it awful. I was thinking like, bad CG, poor transference from animated movement and style to real people, some awkward pronunciation of Japanese names.

Why didn't it occur to me that Warner Bros. would not cast Asian people? That's the easiest way to destroy it! Apparently I had some strange, misplaced trust in the system, like maybe someone had learned something from watching the supreme fail in The Last Airbender. And you can't even make the argument that Akira is based in a fictional world. FICTIONAL JAPAN IS STILL JAPAN. JAPANESE PEOPLE STILL LIVE THERE. JAPANESE PEOPLE STILL DO NOT LOOK LIKE JAMES MCAVOY*.

George Takei also links to a totally hilarious YouTube video, which everyone should watch.

If you have a Twitter, retweet George Takei!

Also guys, #WhyNotJohnCho is my favorite hashtag now.

*James McAvoy is still really hot though.

my work!, japanese, march madness, the world, relevant to my interests, grad school, tweet tweet, these people are my heroes, anime, movies, school, television, thesis
