Today's theme: Asian American artists! Plus a bonus "help Japan" day with arts thrown in.

For New Yorkers:

Mothers Milk: A Japan Earthquake Fundraiser and Reflection with Ishle Yi Park

Renowned poet Ishle Yi Park will be joined by Palestinian American poet-activist Suheir Hammad, musician Taiyo Na, writer Chiwan Choi, poet Roopa Singh, and performance artist YaliniDream. It's happening Sunday, April 3 at the Asian American Writers' Workshop.

The event is open to the public, with a suggested donation of $5. Proceeds from the evening will be donated to Save the Children.

For LAers:

State of the Word: Asian American Spoken-Word Artists

Asian American spoken-word artists seek to claim not only auditory space and the literary page, but also dramatic space and the human body. They are loud, provocative, exciting, articulate and literary. They bring the word to the world, and we are bringing them to USC. Bao Phi, Kelly Zen-Yie Tsai and D’Lo represent a fresh, diverse generation of artists who give new expression to the Asian American experience. As entertainers, they rouse audiences; but they are all also socially committed artists whose provocative words engage a wide range of issues.

This event is tonight at USC if you're interested. (Bao Phi and D'Lo are pretty great!)

Doors open at 7:45 PM
Must have a Claremont Colleges ID to enter. IF YOU ARE NOT 5C STUDENT, STAFF, OR FACULTY, YOU MUST HAVE A 5C HOST OR GUEST PASS TO ATTEND THE EVENT.

Please note the requirement above, and, for the love of gods, FIND A CLAREMONT COLLEGES STUDENT, STAFF, OR FACULTY TO HOST YOU. The concert is going to be AWESOME and I'm so jealous I CAN'T GO and that no one thought of this while I was at the AARC.

Here, have Youtube to help me back up how awesome Blue Scholars are:
