Friday afternoon after Yao's class I drove us up to DC. We ran into some construction related traffic between Crystal City and downtown DC, but made it to the hotel after a lot of me swearing at the GPS because it wanted me to make u-turns on Connecticut Avenue near Dupont Circle. THAT IS ACTUALLY NOT POSSIBLE IN MOST PLACES. Anyway.
After checking in we walked a couple blocks down to an Italian restaurant, which was very busy and very cute. It took us a long time to get seated because there was confusion over whether we were sitting at the bar or at a table. I got to watch most of Larry King? Eventually we got seated and ordered, and the staff was very polite and nice to us throughout the evening.
Back in the hotel room we discovered that a bunch of movies were coming to an end - Ocean's Eleven (the remake with George Clooney), which we both like, Babe, and Fellowship of the Ring. Yao studied a little bit and we got to bed early-ish so that we could be ready to go in the morning.
In the morning Yao woke up... really early, and when I asked her what time it was, she responded in Chinese.
I ended up sleeping until about 8:30, and we went out to breakfast at Subway (yeah, so exciting) at around 9:30. Yao had to be there to check-in at 11, so we had... a lot of time to kill. Also there was about 10 minutes where we thought we might have to go all the way back up because the Center's calendar said the TOEIC was this coming weekend.
So then I pretty much sat around doing homework until the test was over... afterward we went to have cupcakes at this little store called hello cupcake! Mine at least was delicious - raspberry and chocolate, nomnomnom. We walked back to the hotel and I got my car, and then somehow we magically got to the National Mall area and found parking in front of the Department of Education :/
There were two exhibits we wanted to see -
Read My Pins on Madeleine Albright's pins and brooches at the Smithsonian Castle, and the First Lady Inaugural ballgowns at the Museum of American History. The first one was so interesting, Yao and I both ended up buying a catalog. The Inagural ballgowns are interesting to see height, style, etc. Michelle Obama's is... up close, pretty horrible. At least she looked okay in it :/ Hillary Clinton's is really pretty, as is Betty Ford's.
Also the Black Families Reunion was happening out on the Mall :D
After our museum adventures, we stopped by Starbucks and then headed out of the city. We stopped twice for gas, once for dinner, and then once for coffee on the way back. Also it was pouring through most of Virginia :/ At least that helped keep me awake, I was pretty tired for the last three hours of the drive. Yao tried to talk about hot guys to keep me awake, lol.
CAN WE ALL AGREE THAT JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT IS ADORABLE??? PLEASE???
That is all. PIctures later, maybe, if I get around to it.
