*sigh*

Everything is straightened out with my courses - graduate Japanese, graduate independent study, and Japanese architecture. I think that Rose and Marguerite are taking the last class at the graduate level, but I just kind of didn't feel like that was the one I should be taking as a theoretically harder and more involved class.

So I should probably. Start reading that pile of books on my new bookshelf (pictures later, when my bedroom isn't a disaster of stuff anymore) and. Stop reading about Chinese prostitution (but OMG 海上花 is so entertaining!).

I need to get on figuring out the APSI forums too.

... All in all, life is pretty quiet. Jen is taking a leave of absence, so there are only 4 returning students in my year (plus the one JD/MA student). I'm too tired right now to try reaching out to the first-years yet, though I'm sure we will later since. We're sad and lonely like that. Now that my classes have been settled, hopefully I'll get a better feel for my routine.

- Though, as an aside, Duke's parking/transportation services is one of the most poorly run divisions of the university, IMO. My shuttle basically stops just before 5, and also no longer runs to East Campus, so I have to walk 15 minutes. It's been stressing me out, trying to get the timing at all right for anything, and I spend a ton of time waiting for the shuttle or just trying to figure out where the hell its route goes. I've been told that basically, prior to the new director, the administration of the department was not willing to work with drivers or students to come up with transportation and parking that fit everyone's needs. This explains why the online system is so bad, and why I'm stuck in my current godawful parking lot. -

Wednesday Yao and I went shopping in the afternoon - Yao wanted perfume, and somehow I ended up getting a dress, a pair of jeans (desperately needed since I tore one of my pairs in Tokyo), and makeup. I've been wanting to try liquid eyeliner for awhile, since a pencil eyeliner smudges all over my eyelid (compounded with my double eyelids and the cream I have to wear on them to keep my eczema under control), so I asked for their recommendation. I also found a cute little palette of fall colors, and apparently I get a birthday gift every year for having a card at Sephora. WHY DID I NOT KNOW THIS UNTIIL NOW.

I think right now I'm just enjoying having the apartment to myself all the time. It's very nice and quiet.

Also Diego-fishy died over the summer, so I bought a new one to replace him. We are torn between naming him Scout because he is wee and bitty and swims very fast and Lancer because he is such a show-off. Do you see the beautifully appropriate irony of Canada-fishy outliving Spy-fishy and Diego-fishy DO YOU.

Oh right. I need to stop playing TF2.

This afternoon I'm driving up to DC with Yao so she can take the TOEIC tomorrow. Oh boy. Maybe I'll go hang out at the Smithsonian for a couple of hours. Sunday I have work in Greensboro.

I think that is all for today.
