As a quick preface to my short paragraph on Toy Story: I also watched Watchmen, which I thought was passably good. I was entertained for a while, though it did take me a long time to watch the whole thing. There were still random things that I'm not sure were totally necessary to the plot or the understanding of the characters, and I'm not entirely sold on the character development (or not development, as the case may be). I did like the ambivalence the movie portrayed towards the ending. Matthew Goode is pretty, Billy Crudup has a nice voice, and I've now forgotten who they got to play Rorsharch but he was awesome.
I also attempted Ben-Hur, but honestly only got through the first plot arc. I didn't even make it to the chariot race lol. But I did get to see Jesus give him water.
And yesterday I watched I Love You, Man. Jason Segel is cute, Paul Rudd is cute, the movie is cute. And kind of hilarious.
SO. ON TO THE REAL STORY.
Toy Story is 99 on AFI's Top 100, and... I mean, I really don't know what to say about it. It's fantastic. There's something very adult and childlike and whimsical about it. These toys speak to adult problems of jealousy, rejection, anxiety, friendship, and leadership. They speak to child problems of jealousy, rejection, anxiety, friendship, and leadership. Every time I see it, I re-evaluate my childhood, thinking about all the joy I gleaned from playing with toys, and still do. I usually watch with my stuffed animals :D
It's a serious movie, without being too dramatic or too awful. It deals with feelings we all feel in a very genuine and affective way, and that's really why I love it so much. I think that everyone identifies with Woody and Buzz, one or both, and what they feel throughout the movie and their development as people/toys and their friendship.
I really have nothing else to say, other than it's a fantastic movie, one that I often forget is such a good movie until I think about it. I think for most of us it was a big deal when it came out, and I remember it as being both part of and separate from my childhood. Everyone should go see it again! ♥
