The Fun Begins...
As we get rolling down 10 the jeep losses power. Rich tries turning the jeep off then back on, but that trick didn't work this time. We pull off the side of the interstate to see put it in park and try it again. Well Rich gets the jeep shut off and tries starting it a few times. That of course didn't work out all that well. Rich, Michelle, and I jump out the jeep to see what's going on under the hood. While we're looking around under there we don't see anything out of the ordenary just yet. Rich pulls the top off the fuse box and starts to go through the fuses. I hope in the driver seat to turn her over a few more times to see if we can get anything. Nothing happens...Richs finally finds the problem. The ignition controle fuse is blown and it's not your regular size fuse either. It's one of those big boy ones that are high voltage...Only play you can find them is in an auto parts store.
Rich makes the choice to pull the fuse from he's blower motor (a/c power) as a temporary replacement. As soon as Rich goes to place the fuse in it blows as well. Well we make another choice of taking the fuse that powers the head lights (Rich still has running lights) as another temporary replacement...That one blows as well. So now we're all sitting there trying to figure out why the fusses keep blowing as soon as we get them in the slot. We start calling everyone we could think of that would have some idea to why.
Everyone we get ahold of doesn't really have any ideas and Rich's dad hasn't called us back yet. Now the idea of walking down to the exit we're close to is proposed...We take off walking to the exit; keep in mind Rich and I are wearing reflective road vest so the cars will see us before they hit us at least... We make it all the way down the off ramp to see that the only two gas stations are closed. To top it off a cop passes by us and doesn't even stop!! Now we have to make the walk back to the truck which means 2 miles back although the walk back seemed a whole lot shorter.
We make it back to the jeep and everyone gets in to think about what we will do next. FINALLY Rich's dad calls and starts telling us what to check and to call him back once we do all that stuff. We check everything he tells us to check, a few extra things, and call him back. He tells us to check some other things then to call him back again after we figure that stuff out. While we're talking about some things we see a trucker pulling up behind us. He's the first person to stop since we pulled off the side of the road. Hell no cops have stopped for us either at this point. He ask if we're okay and if we're going to get the jeep fixed. We say yes and that we don't need a ride. After making sure we were going to be okay we thank him and he pulls out. Rich goes back to looking around, Pam and Michelle go to the trees to use the bathroom, and I trapse back into the trees to use the bathroom myself.
After about another hour Rich calls he's dad back to let him know we still haven't found anything. Rich's dad tells use to get some wires and try to bridge them to see if she crank. We're strip some wire from he's fog lights and start to bridge things. We get the head lights working and then disconnect the baterry to see how the other wire will work. We try it several times and FINALLY the jeep cranks.
We all scramble to get back into the jeep, on te road, and back to Valdosta. We make it all the way back into town. We find ourselves at the Awfule Waffle to get some food and just try to forget the LONG ASS NIGHT we just had. I made it home around 6am to just do nothing but sleep the day away today. After spending 4hrs on the side of I-10 we've all agreed that we will take road trips in more reliable cars from here on out...The nights I have with my buddies I swear. After this weekend we I'm definatly going to be carrying the video camera around every where we go. This way it will definatly have some videos to watch later on...Later Days
