My Twilight Problem

Nov 03, 2008 21:41

I promised in my last post that I would explain the Twilight problem.

I like to read.
I have this problem every so often (rarely, actually) where I will find a book that causes me some problems.
Let me explain:
Every so often I find a book I love so much that I will read it ragged. Not only will I read it ragged but once I pick up one of those few books which give me problems, I can be considered a useless git until I have finished it. In other words, once I start the book, it can be assumed that I will not put it down until I have finished it.

Until a few months ago, the only books which gave me those problems were "Lamb" by Christopher Moore, and "Memoirs of a Geisha" by Arthur Golden. If I need something to read I will, by default, pick up one of these two books, despite the fact that I have read them both a million times.
A few couple of months ago my sister introduced me to "Twilight" by Stephanie Meyers. I became instantly attached.

I know. You are probably saying, "So what's the difference between "Twilight" and the other two books?"

The difference, and the issue that makes "Twilight" a bigger problem than the others is that the "Twilight" books are a series. I can't just read ONE of the four books. If you see me pick up "Twilight" it should be assumed that I will be out of commission until I have finished the series (and this also includes the incomplete book "Midnight Sun" which Ms. Meyers released on her website which also poses problems of its own, but I'll touch on that at another time). For those of you who have seen the books, you know that they are by no means short books. If I pick up "Twilight" I am subject to lose 4-6 days of my life.

So that's the Twilight Problem.
