A request for my reading audience.

My mother teaches pre-school at Trinity Nursery School in Pass Christian. (If you click on the Pass Christian link it will give you the MapQuest map to Trinity Episcopal Church. You will have to scroll up a bit because the church is actually on the corner of Church and St. Louis. If you look at the aerial view of the map, you will see a rooftop and some former-building rubble to the left of the roof. The roof is the church and the rubble WAS the education building.) The school teaches three and four year olds in a half-day environment filled with learning and play. My mother was the assistant director until a few years ago when took over as director. She has taught pre-school here for 22. Myself and both of my siblings went to school at Trinity Nursery School prior to Kindergarten and all of mom's students benifit greatly from the experience.
The school was completely wiped from its foundation, leaving only the floorboards which, prior to Hurricane Katrina, were newly finished. Trinity Nursery School was set to start only a week after Katrina. Needless to say, with no building, no students, and a teacher who was displaced to Texas indefinately, school did not start. Due to problems with rebuilding as well as a need for a temporary home for the school, the Nursery School did not open for the 2006-2007 school year either.

Today my mother met with the pastor of Trinity Episcopal Church and hopefully a temporary housing for the school has been found. A Methodist church just down the road from Trinity Episcopal is closing its doors. The church has lost so many parishioners that it will be combining with a sister church since they cannot afford to rebuild their old church. However, they have a newly redone education building, which they have agreed to rent to Trinity for the use of the Nursery School and youth programs.
I cannot describe to you how happy my mother is. More than once I have seen my mother's eyes well up with tears when she sees a toddler in the store and says, "I miss my school. I miss my kids." The Nursery school means so much to my mom there just aren't words.

Now comes the part where I make my request.

The school has nothing. Mom and her Teacher's Assistant are in the process of contacting donors, large companies, and charitable organizations for help.

The help I ask of you is very simple. Since I was in school there, Trinity Nursery School has collected Campbell's soup labels for the Labels For Education program. This program allows the school to order supplies, indoor and outdoor toys, tangibles, and playground supplies by turning in labels from Campbell's products. What I am asking, dear readers, is for you to save your labels for Trinity Nursery School. If you live in the Hattiesburg area I will happily arrange to come pick up your labels as often as you would like. If you don't live in the Hattiesburg area, send me an e-mail to the_goddess@livejournal.com so I can e-mail you my mailing address and you can mail them to me every so often, or if you prefer, I can give you the address to the Nursery School and you can mail them directly there. (Be wary, the mail doesn't always get to the Nursery School accurately.)

Click Here for a list of eligible products to save the labels from. On soup cans, you can just yank the whole label off of the can, and on other products, the bar code with the Labels For Education logo is enough.

Please feel free to re-post this, or pass it along to a friend. And if you have any other fund raising suggestions or know of anywhere that can give donations or supplies, e-mail me and let me know.

Thank you.
