Wouldn't a lot of the townsfolk back in the 1850's still have British or Brit-influenced accents?

Worse than Amy with a gun, Rory the Roman with a shotgun.

Oh, did the cyborg at the beginning remind anyone else of Kryten?

Not really; by the 1850s, there was a distinct American sound. 1750, they would still sound British.

I suspect there would be a LOT of European accents. Huge immigration at that point in history.

Really it would depend on the place. Immigrants tended to cluster in the big cities on the coasts rather than head far inland, unless the were working on the railroad or somesuch, in which case they'd probably be Chinese or Irish, mostly, or at least more of those than British.

At least, that's how I've always heard it told. ^.^'
