'A modern feminist tends to:
- believe that there are no meaningful differences between men and women
- oppose chivalry and even feign insult at harmless displays of it
- view traditional marriage as unacceptably patriarchal
- shirk traditional gender activities, like baking
- support affirmative action for women
- detest women who are happy in traditional roles, such as housewives, and especially dislike those who defend such roles
- prefer that women wear pants rather than dresses, presumably because men do
- seek women in combat in the military just like men, and coed submarines
- refuse to take her husband's last name when marrying
- distort historical focus onto female figures, often overshadowing important events (Eg: Henry VIII's wives take precedence in common knowledge to his actual reign.)
- object to being addressed as "ma'am"'
1. There aren't, other than the obvious physical ones.
2. I bloody love chivalry, thanks very much. Men being sweet and thoughtful and opening doors? Heck yeah- especially when I'm carrying a double bass around.
3. Traditional marriage being 'two people deciding to commit to each other for life' or the 50s 'man goes to work, wife stays at home and is silent, smiling babymaking machine' version? The former's wonderful, the latter's stupid and horrendously outdated.
4. ...you do not want to see my baking. Seriously. I'm about as good at cooking as Hetalia-England is. Any girl (or guy, for that matter) who can cook is more than welcome to do so, but I have the habit of turning even the simplest recipes toxic.
5. Affirmative action, according to Conservapedia, means giving someone preference based on an unalterable fact about them. Well done guys- you've successfully destroyed your first point, as well as proving yourself liars in the process (at least, where the vast majority of feminists are concerned).
6. Women who are happy in traditional roles? Well, they can carry on being happy, as far as I'm concerned- so long as they are genuinely happy and not just putting on a brave face because it's what their husband wants.
7. I am sitting here right now wearing a skirt that is currently one of my favourite items of clothing. My sister is sitting next to me in a school skirt. Feminism promotes choice in what people wear, sweethearts- it has never said 'THOU SHALT WEAR TROUSERS OR ELSE'.
8. See point 1. Since there are no real differences between men and women, it follows that women should be allowed to join their country's armed forces as they wish.
9. ...um, no? So long as it's not something seriously embarrassing, I'm good with my potential future hubby's last name (if I marry at all, of course).
10. Henry VIII's life and politics was defined by the women in his life. That's been historical fact long before feminism took hold- it's why the Church of England was formed, for crying out loud!
11. Evidence, please? I've never heard of a woman who disliked it- have any of you guys?
They also devote a whole page to 'Bias in Wikipedia'- to which I can only say, go and edit it if it bothers you that much. That's the whole point.
Ugh. If you'll excuse me, I'm off to do some headdesking.
