1. Zuko is, in fact, a dweeb. I love Zuko. He's a great character. Much of the reason I love Zuko is part of the same reason Mai hearts

May I add that Mai and Zuko's lines were stupid because that's how teenagers talk.

What bugs me so much about people complaining about the Mai/Zuko scene in The Headband is them saying that because Zuko's line was cheesy/corny then OMG THE SHIP IS SO BADLY WRITTEN. It's like...I don't understand how you don't get that their lines are INTENTIONALLY CHEESY/RIDICULOUS not because omg the ship is doomed, but because they are dorkface teenagers in love and dorkface teenagers in love say stupid, sappy shit to each other and make out a lot.

It's a pretty sad day, I feel, when I have to go to Television Without Pity to find people who AREN'T hating their hearts out, wtf.

The only really badly written part of Mai/Zuko is How It Happened. How they act around each other is done on part with the level of the show.

And it should be noted that it is badly written in that it wasn't...written into the show at all. NOT BECAUSE MAI/ZUKO IS INHERENTLY UNBELIEVABLE AS PEOPLE LIKE TO IMPLY.

I love this post. Like -- a lot. And not just for the tellin' it as it is attitude or the (TOTALLY WELCOME) image links! You lay stuff out so clearly and with such insight, it's a delight to read. (It's also made me want to watch The Headband again, for the umpteenth time.)

*Nods* Wonderful. I agreed on everything you said here, except for that "Mai gave Azula a murderous look" because to me, it looks like an annoyed look. We've seen Mai look really angry in The Return to Omashu, and it's nothing like it. However I agree with you, she's not collaborating with Azula against Zuko.

Zuko a dweeb, and Aang suave? Who knew? XD

Oh and I know what you mean, a lot of people see Katara being motherly toward Aang--but I disagree with that. You don't dance that way with your mother. XD
