Avatar Book III Volume I cover!
BELOW: WHAT EVERYONE IN THE AVATAR FANDOM HAS BEEN TALKING ABOUT.
So there's a friend of mine who isn't part of the online fandom in any way but loves Avatar to death and so I pass along to him new Avatar stuff. And it was RIGHT as I was talking to him on AIM that I opened up ASN and saw the news! And so:
Me: OH MY GOODNESS
Me: !!!!!!!!!!!
[[I transfer the file to him]]
Aaron: Wooah
Aaron: A....Aang... has hair?
Aaron: K...is that fire nation style?!?!?
Aaron: (Nice... wow... that bumps her closer to Azula)
Me: I KNOW I FULLY APPROVE OF HER HAIR
Aaron: Sokka and Toph both look very serious and heroic.
Me:and the bracelets
Aaron: Yesh
Aaron: Dude, Aang looks...
Aaron: ....this will sound strange
Aaron: But if I was putting a young, non-evil Loki into the avatar universe
Aaron: Aang looks exactly like that.
Aaron: Sokka, the swordsman!
Me: hey, you're right!
Me: it's not his normal club thing
Me: huh. Maybe that explains the season 3 episode called "Sokka's Master"
[[Yes, yes, I know, I know, there's pretty much no way of actually guessing what that episode is about. I generally do not approve of speculation based on titles alone!]]
Aaron: He's gonna learn to be a sword guy!
Aaron: Woot!
Aaron: Sokka will be cool.

Me: (and lol at the Loki thing)
Aaron: (ITS TRUE)
Aaron: (Look at his expression)
Me: (AH. I SEE IT NOW)
Me: I had been oogling everybody's clothing & hair that I missed the facial expressions!
Aaron: They all have a more serious look to them
Aaron: Sokka looks focused, and almost confident. Resolved.
Aaron: Toph looks like Toph
Aaron: =D
Aaron: She Who Has Awesome Hair Now looks ultra-determined.
Aaron: And Aang... he has a quasi-mischevious smirk. But... it's like.. the smirk of a... it's the smirk of someone halfway between... you know what? I can't properly define it.
Aaron: It's Aang... and it's something else.
Aaron: It's a little bit dark... and a little bit matured... and little bit cunning... and still mischevious.
Aaron: I can't really get a hold on it,.
Aaron: Like, if I didn't know Aang as a character
Aaron: I would thing he wasa supervillain
Aaron: But he's not!
Aaron: So.. I'm... soooo confuuuused
[[I would have explained to him that a lot of it is simply the art styles they use on the Avatar DVD covers, but I WAS HAVING TOO MUCH FUN AND DID NOT WANT TO KILL THE SHEER JOY-IOSITY]].
Me: I think the evil look comes from
Me: the BLACK HAIR
Me: WITH THE BLACK SLANTED EYEBROWS
Me: AND THE DARK EYES
Me: AND THE SMIRK
Me: and the Black Fire Nation top
Aaron: See, it's everything. The hair definitely helps
Aaron: But the eyes and smirk make it too
Me: Katara's expression looks so evil too.
Me: Hot, but evil
Aaron: Maybe that's why I was thinking how suddenly dateable she was.
Aaron: her eyes don't really look evil to me though
Aaron: Just...
Aaron: ...like she would kill someone for Aang.
Aaron: Like she would do what needs to be done.
Aaron: Without hesitation.
Me: YES. BECAUSE THOSE FIRE NATION SCUM KILLED HIM ONCE
Me: AND THEY AIN'T GOING TO KILL HIM AGAIN
Aaron: (Amazing what we can learn [or at least, presume] from a simple still picture) =D
Aaron: Exactly.
Me: Yeah, "Imagonna kill you" is what I thought seeing her facial expression, not so much "I'm evil"
Aaron: I pity the first person that tries to harm Aang in her presence
Aaron: And....
Aaron: Zuko
Aaron: I pity Zuko if he ever crosses her path again
Me: and Azula
Aaron: Definitely.
Aaron: Definitely.
Me: hahaha. Azula vs. Katara fight FTW
Me: she gonna do more than a tidal wave of looove
Aaron: You sow to the wind, you reap the whirlwind.
Aaron: Or in this case, waves....typhoon.
Me: I'm all for weatherbending!
Me: speaking of which, there were some mad cool weather shots in the Planet Earth episode I saw on Saturday
Me: amazing shots of a hurricane forming
Aaron: ^___^
Aaron: Oooooh
Me: and a desert full of dust devils
Me: aka whirlwinds a la Job
Aaron: that sounds acceptably cool
Aaron: Hmm
Aaron: Well, the Avatar can weatherbend
Aaron: Water, Wind, and Fire can pretty much do it all
Aaron: If you add in earth, you can even control the dust particles to create hail and stuff of specific sizes
Me: Yeah, and Aang and Katara already did that synchronous cloudbending way back when
Me: And then if Iroh is with them teaching Aang firebending... well, they've got lightning right there.
Aaron: Mmmm
Aaron: I need Aang to call down a ferocious thundersnowiccane
Aaron: neeeeed
Me: YES. AND THEN THE COMET COMES. AND OZAI IS ALL LIKE RARRRRRR AND DOES SOME VOLCANOBENDING IT'S LIKE A GIANT WEATHERSTORM VERSUS A MASSIVE INFERNO/VOLCANO
FYI, that weatherbending bit was not actually speculating on my part... I was just fantasizing! I have a... thing... for weather-manipulation superpowers.
So, YEAH. It looks like season 3 of Avatar will come out the same week as season 4 of The Office... or maybe, just maybe, the week before. And I frankly don't really care when the new season of Heroes comes out, though I will watch it.
