David woke up to a little round face with bright multicolored eyes staring back at him.

"Daddy? You wakey?"

"Well, I am now."

"Yay! Pancakes!"

"Pancakes?! You're really pushing it."

Jane planted her little bottom down on her daddy's chest and made her eyes as wide as she could, tilting her head to the side just a little bit. "Pancakes, Daddy? PWEASE!"

"Alright, alright! I'll make you pancakes. Just please stop giving me that look." David tickled the little girl's sides gently, as he moved her off his chest and placed her on the floor next to the bed. He could hear her giggle as her little feet scampered down the hallway and towards the kitchen. After a quick pitstop to the bathroom, David made his way into the kitchen as well to find Jane holding the heart shaped pancake mold that she, by way of Carly, had gotten him last Valentine's Day. It was a known fact that pancakes were a staple in the Cook household, so it was actually pretty smart thinking on the Irishwoman's part. Plus, Jane got a kick out eating pancakes shaped like hearts.

"You want heart pancakes today, huh?"

"Yeah, hearts." Jane nodded her head matter of factly, holding the mold up high for her daddy to take.

"Okay. Hearts it is." David took the mold, opening the appropriate cupboard doors to get out a pan and some pancake mix. "Did you go potty?"

"Yes."

"Did you wash your hands?" Jane stared at up at him, not saying a word. "Well, I'll be washing the pancake mold now." David reached over to turn the kitchen sink on. "And you'll be washing your hands. Go on. You know where the step stool is." He gave her a tap on her bottom and she went scampering off to the bathroom. By the time she got back he had her pancakes done and was in middle of cutting them up. As soon as she saw them her eyes got really big and she wiggled her bottom back and forth. David chuckled at her excited reaction and lifted her up into her booster seat, setting the plate down in front of her, along with a cup of milk.

Jane took a pile of pancakes on her fork and shoved it in her mouth. "Tank ooo addy."

"You're welcome." David replied with a smile. He went back to the stove to get himself some when he heard the phone ring. He ran into the living room to grab the portable. "Hello?"

"Hey, um... David?"

"That's what they call me."

He heard a small, nervous laugh on the other end of the phone. "It's Mike... from the bar."

"Oh. Hi." For some reason, one that he wasn't really ready to admit to yet, David's heart started beating faster in his chest.

"Hi. I hope I didn't wake you up. I know you probably had to work late..."

"No! No, I was awake."

"Oh ok... good. Well... listen I know it's really soon and everything... But, I was just wondering if maybe you had any time today? To get some coffee, or lunch or something? I'll understand if you're busy. I know it's..."

David cut him off again as he was starting to pick up on his tendency to ramble. "Um... well, I don't have any specific plans for today, but..." David stuck his head into the kitchen to see Jane sipping away at her milk. "You know what? Yeah, I'd love to hang out today." David made an instant decision to get a babysitter.

"Really? Great." Michael made a quick mental note to quit sounding so eager. "Do you know the coffee shop on Main?"

"Yeah, I've been there before."

"Cool. Meet you there around one?"

"Yeah sure. That sounds... really great." David took the moment to stop and smile to himself.

"Definitely! I'll see you then."

"Kay. Later."

David had dropped Jane off at Carly's, who demanded details when he got back, and was now walking through the front of the door of the coffee shop. He kinda felt like his heart was in his throat and when he saw Michael sitting at a small table, he was sure it was. He made his way over to the Australian, smiling when the other man finally saw him.

After some awkward greetings and a trip up to the counter, they settled back in at the table, finally starting to get comfortable with each other. Some small talk ensued, but something still lingered between them, things were left unsaid. David decided he was gonna just put it all out there, he didn't have time to waste in this area of his life. "Can I ask you a question? And it may totally freak you out and send you running in the opposite direction but... it's a chance I have to take."

Michael swallowed down the sip of coffee he'd just taken and looked David in the eye. "Yeah, of course."

"It's just...in the bar...and then when you called me...it kinda seemed like, maybe..." David sighed deeply, trying to get his words together. "Is this a date?"

Michael choked a bit. He really should've stopped drinking while David was talking. "Um...well...do you want it to be?"

David smiled slightly. That was pretty much the best answer he could've heard. "I... \wouldn't be particularly upset about it or anything."

Michael smiled, genuinely smiled for the first time in a while. He looked around the small coffee shop, leaning into speak to David in a low voice. "Listen, I'm not exactly used to this whole..."

"Dating guys thing?"

"Heh. Yeah. Do you think maybe we could go back to my place and talk?"

"Uh..." David looked at his watch quickly. "Yeah, sure."
