It's pretty long so far. Go ahead and read if you want...

Joseph McCarthy was blah blah blah this will be my opening paragraph when I can think of something cool and meaningful to write, but for now I am just writing something to take up space until I can think of something.
Joseph McCarthy was born on November 15, 1908 to Timothy and Bridget McCarthy, on a small farm in Grand Chute, Wisconsin. The name Joseph came from one of Tim’s deceased brothers. Farm life kept everyone busy; Bridget was busy teaching the girls all about cooking, cleaning, and sewing, and Tim was out on the farm, teaching the boys necessary farming skills. In the fall of 1916, Joe enrolled in Underhill Elementary School, a one-room school where one teacher taught eight grades. By the time Joe was in seventh grade, he was receiving comments from his teacher, which classified him as “Very good”. Joe was a rambunctious boy, and was always looking for something fun and exciting to do. He once made a pair of wings and challenged his younger brother Howard to put them on and leap from a high haymow (Reeves 4). After elementary school, the boys were encouraged to go into high school and college. However, after a few years of boring farm chores, Joe left to go start his own business: chicken farming.
Chicken farming went well for Joe. He bought lots of chickens, raised them, and then sold their eggs. Before long, however, he had thousands of chickens, and had to take them in to become poultry. Unfortunately for Joe, chicken farming eventually plummeted, leaving him with nothing, including any real work experience. He managed to get a job at the local Cash-Way store and was later transferred to Manawa to become the manager of a new branch. Joe was very successful here, and quickly became a local favorite. Eventually, he decided it would be worth it to return to school and get a real education, so he went to the local high school, and after some talking with the school board, was admitted as the oldest freshman to Little Wolf High School.
Joe tried to keep up, but eventually a Cash-Way official told him that he would have to give up school or his position. He quit. But this didn’t get Joe down. He became so involved in school that he graduated in a matter of nine months, completing freshman year by Thanksgiving, sophomore year by mid-year, and junior year by Easter. He was so involved, in fact, that he was vice-president of the freshman class, leading member of the entertainment committee for the Halloween dance, and was on the pep club committee. After graduation, Joe decided that he wanted to expand his horizons, and after some mild debating with himself, he went to Marquette University to study engineering.
His first two years of college were full of math, science, English, economics, accounting, and public speaking; courses that were considered necessary for any field. Throughout his life, Joe had always been an avid boxer, which now showed in his first years. He became so fond of it that he soon decided he wanted to do it professionally, asking a local boxing instructor to be his manager. He agreed to do it for him, however he advised Joe that continuing college would be a much wiser choice. Joe reluctantly took the advice, and likewise prospered before the end.
After his first two years in college, Joe made a big decision. He overheard friends in his boardinghouse talking about the field of law. The appeal of verbally battling with another and the thrill of winning were too much for him to take, especially with engineering as the alternative, so he decided to apply for law school. Shortly after entering, he joined a fraternity: Delta Theta Phi. Joe enjoyed the fraternity very much, especially with all the poker nights. Joe was careless with his money, and would often bet on cards he hadn’t even seen, and trade hands he hadn’t looked at yet. If another player ran out of money, he would shove a big pile of chips in front of him as to keep him in, and when he won, he would buy everyone sandwiches and Cokes. Joe graduated after a few years of studying law, but study was not the leading reason he graduated. He had an amazing ability for memorization, which would come in handy during his political career. This coupled with shortcuts and the occasional bluff were enough to get him through the rigorous years of law school. But nevertheless, he graduated, and no it was time for him to open his first law firm.
He went to Waupaca, where he opened his own small law office. He didn’t have very much success; in one year he had only been given four cases. One day a respected lawyer walked into Joe’s office. His name was Mike Eberlein and he came from Shawano County. He offered Joe a job in Shawano working for him, and Joe was reluctant, until talk of a salary came up, and Joe gladly went. Joe did well in this office, although his spending habits were still atrocious. Joe was described as a fun-loving and extroverted man. Most of his legal work involved small work, and he never did any work too grand. He wanted more than this, and he found a short while later.

if you do read it, tell me what you think so far. Thanks!
