i have this co-worker, who is a very uneducated person. she's been going to community college for 2 years and is just now going to attend a state college. and i have the best of hopes for her. she's the daughter of a drug addict and has been taking care of her mother and alcoholic sister for years. she's very right wing and agrees with nothing i agree with. but i think someday she's gonna be an amazing person and the first person in her "family" to actually accomplish anything.
i'm so sick of defending her. she deserves so much for all she has gone through, the fact that she's going to college at all is a major achievement. she could spend the next 20 years cleaning up her mothers and sisters puke, but she's going on to be an elementary school teacher. i love her for that, i hate all her views on politics but hell, she grew up in a small scary town. she's entitled to those close minded views, jesus, she's not gonna pass them on to elementary school kids. she's gonna teach them to color between the lines. i congratulate her on overcoming her circumstances. to get out of the vomit picking up life style and become a well educated citizen. give her some credit. she may be dumb, but she's at least trying.
i want her to be everything her family couldn't be for her. smart, professional, goal oriented. if no one in her family could make it, at least she can. i feel like i'm the only person cheering for her. and so does she. i think that when she gets to the university that she'll feel some real life seeping into her. that she'll finally know what it's like to only have to take care of yourself.
my only hope is that she goes back for christmas and realizes that what she thought she missed is a lie. and that the only real hope is herself.
and never goes back again.
