watching the lights go down, letting the cables sleep

This week went really fast with little work and lots of tests, but college applications are driving me crazy, and I haven't even started (but I guess that's why it's stressing me out). I haven't written my essay. Nor do I know what I'm going to write it about. Aaand my writing isn't legible (all those fricking envelopes) so my apps are totally going to end up at some toothless hick's house in Virginia.  I had a meeting with Ms. Lackner today and officially decided I'm applying ED to UVA, rolling to Pennstate and McGill as early as possible, perhaps EA to BC. The rest I'll deal with later as my list is not finalized...

Other than that, I'm rather enjoying life and love my friends a lot. Sadly, I'm growing very distant from some of them because I hardly see them during the day, and there just seems to be a lack of talking and a lot of short temperedness :o( I can't wait till we all get senioritis and slack off. Um, I do hope that's going to happen. You never know, with my friends being freaks and all. Sydney made me take this personality quiz from psych the other day, and the description it gave me was so depressing. It described me as an uptight, rule abiding, uber anal retentive, nazi-esque, BUT dependable person. I really hope I'm not like that (for the most part). And then she laughed at the idea of me being dependable, which actually made me want to cry. If almost nothing else I'd like to be considered dependable. It's one of the qualities I most value in others too... crazy how you can think that about somebody so completely, and then it ends up that all you have left of that is a single picture and a lie hanging on the wall. On an unrelated note, I love Buddy for being my constant and not being caught up in the whole... name/prestige thing :o)

There are a million and one birthdays in mid September to early November. Seriously, eight of my close friends. It's friggin nuts. But for that reason I got three pieces of chocolate cake served to me today for three different birthdays. Not that I need it, but sweeet. Tonight we surprised Dani at Temptation Tea House for her 17th, which was cute. I was thoroughly amused by the fact we both knocked over glasses of water and I splashed my sauce everywhere. So clutzy. Then we went back to her house and the usual nonsense ensued. Interesting how completely the group dynamic can change based on the absence of a few people. I also thoroughly enjoyed Matt's embarassment at buying a pregnancy test at Target for part of Dani's present ("Dang Nell, I knew we shouldn't have bought those birth control pills from Mexico"), and driving around with the windows down, the music blasting, and Nell and I wearing those ridiculous hats Janel left in my car. They're awesome, with big feathers and gold sparkles and... they make my life. My car has personality, for sure, even if it is on the verge of breaking down. I did convince my dad to get a Prius as his next car though, which I am very proud of. So as soon as he gets that the audi is mine... although he may decide to wait for the '06. Bah. Oh well, as long as it gets me from point A to point B in one piece, right?

I was driving Matt home tonight a little after 12 and he fell asleep in the car...  So I was driving to his house on the serene, wooded road, totally devoid of all cars, and Let There Be Love (Oasis) came on after a series of heavier songs, and it just felt perfect. At that moment I was totally calm and blissful. And I pulled into my driveway right at the end of the line, "Come on baby blue, shake up your tired eyes, the world is waitin for you, may all your dreaming fill the empty sky." Speaking of music, I was listening to a song and then all of a sudden the mp3 file with Janel's Curtis impersonation- "CMON GUYS, THAT'S GOOD STUFF!"- came on. Oh, happy days. I love sleeping people though. People always find this creepy, but I like watching people sleep. They're so cute and peaceful and unlike they are when awake. Makes me think of being little and my grandma always sending me upstairs to kiss my grandpa awake from his nap...

Oy. I can't believe ANOTHER hurricane is hitting tomorrow. I feel terrible for all the people in Houston and New Orleans, and although this is not even remotely important in the scheme of things, we were planning on going to New Orleans for spring break. I still want to go though, to volunteer for Habitat and help rebuild, but nobody really wants to go. I guess that's not what people actually want in a spring break. So I think we're off to Virginia or something. Hmm.

Tomorrow? My mission is to write my dang college essay, and then I will be rewarded by going see the John Lennon broadway musical! Enjoy your weekend, everyone! Y feliz cumpleanos hoy (o ayer, ahora) a Spencersito. Sorry for the length!

Quote of the Entry: ::I sprint across the street and down the road to my car in the dark::

RACHEL! WAIT! ::runs toward me:: The bourbon!

I don't want the bourbon! No! What am I supposed to do with that?

::Whimpers, shifty eyes, shoves bottle into my hands and runs back into the house::
