Summary: Naruto contemplates the concept of forever.
Forever
It felt odd to hear my voice assure you that I would wait forever for you to complete the arduous task you’d set for yourself.
In fact, as the words tumbled from my mouth in a torrent of empathy, I realized that forever was an insurmountable period of time; a period of time in which I would be utterly and completely alone.
The thought was like ice. It numbed the feel of your lips on mine.
The sensation of being with you, forgotten to the reality of being without you.
Forever seemed like a kaleidoscope. Broken distortions of time; each varying in their tantalizing agony…
…Slowly pulling me closer to a point when the shattered pieces of glass would reassemble into something so much more beautiful.
Like stained glass.
A homage to the tribulations we overcame.
Consolation for the time we suffered apart.
Perhaps it is the destiny of a warrior to reminisce in this isolated feeling of nothing.
Or perhaps it is simply our destiny.
It seems that whenever I reach for you with the intention on catching hold of you, you’re out of my reach.
But when I’m simply grasping for a fragment of you, you’re there, solid and available.
You remind me of forever.
Ever elusive. Toying with my sanity as well as my heart.
And yet, I know you don’t set out with the intention of breaking me.
You simply do.
This small comfort, this small truth that eventually you will find your way home, keeps me in good company during your absence.
It holds my hand and sings me to sleep, much like you did.
I’ve realized that no matter where you are I will always have your memory, something that forever cannot hold above my head. Something forever cannot watch me foolishly grasp for with malicious amusement.
It’s ours for all eternity and it will be here in your absence, while I wait forever for your return.
This conclusion wraps itself around my shoulders like a blanket of sorts and envelops me in it's comfort.

Forever doesn’t seem like such a long time.
*shrugs* I wrote this in approximately 4 minutes with editing ^^; If you're going to tell me that it sucks, tell me what sucks and I won't be offended or take it personally, chances are I'll edit in some changes according to your critism. I would also like to point out that the sentance fragments are all intentional for stylistic purposes, just so I don't get people that are anal about grammar over style breathing down my neck ^^.
