superman in the philippines

just came back from watching superman returns. and i love it. thanks to my friend kyla for buying an extra ticket for me. anyway, i liked it better than x3 by a smidge. only because i find brandon routh cuter than hugh jackman. haha!

this is the first movie this year that i wasn't able to read a review before watching (but i did get to read a very important spoiler. grr!). anyway, i don't think the review would influence me, since, no matter what, i think brandon routh is cute superman. hehe! anyway, the story is a bit soso. if x3 actually has a better story, i think, but was underdeveloped by the director. so kudos to brian singer for turning a not so good story into something very watchable. the movie is 2 and half hours long and it did not bore me. and i'm a fan of superhero movies and i like that this superman movie is a better executed than matrix (the flying and the fight scenes in the air). he didn't look like much of a cgi in most scenes where flying is involved.

i think the characters were a bit underdeveloped, but i think much of this movie relied on the previous superman franchise. it is definitely a continuation. brian routh looked like christopher reeves and i they really wanted it that way. i thought i would hate lois lane, but she's not that badlooking in the movie. the wig is a bit distracting at times, but it's not that bad. i don't think lois was made to look like she's hot. she was made to look, erm, normal (not smart). it sucks though, since this lois lane doesn't have a booty. go eat something kate bosworth. but yeah, the characters were underdeveloped and i don't really know why. maybe it's because we're supposed to know them by now. but still, same issue with x3. the internal conflicts wasn't really tackled. or maybe it's just too subtle.

the actors are good, though. with the exception of brandon routh, everyone did really well. i think the most spot on acting was sam huntington's. but definitely the actors did well. i still don't like kevin spacey's portrayal (sp?) of lex luthor, the same way i did not like the portrayal of gene hackman. i like the cartoon version of lex luthor more. anyway, still, i think it was well casted (but much better if kate was meatier).

the movie is funny, too. that surprised me. i didn't think this version would be funny. it reminded me of x2, because i had the same reaction of surprise. but true to its predecessors, it had to be comical in some ways. also, because brian singer directed it. and that guy does not do full on drama. his movies are always funny one way or another. the funny parts made the movie bearable for its length.

i like the action scenes in the movie. brian singer can really make good superhero movies thanks mainly to the technology. without the technology, his movies look that good. superman is a bit of a show off in the movie, but that's okay. he is the superman after all. but it's a joy watching the action scenes. not very violent, though, since, well, superman was never really dark and mysterious like batman. he's the goody two shoes. but still the first time superman showed up, it was very intense. what a return it was. (erm, babbling here, so i'll just end it)

so yeah, go and watch the movie. it's worth every penny you're going to spend. :o)

p.s. and yeah, the spoiler spoiled it for me. it was a very big spoiler and if i hadn't read it, i would like the movie even more. boo hoo hoo!

p.p.s. ang cute cute ni brandon routh.

p.p.p.s. for those who know my 1st stalkee at dlsu, kamukha niya si sam huntington. haha!

movies, superman
