[title] lesson of the week
[author]
deora_mystic[cheque scenario] 55. Draco to Harry - I promise not to say a word.
[summary] Draco wishes he'd understand it a little better.
[ratings/warnings] PG basically. Though, a bigbig warning sign is the fact that this story makes absolutely no sense; it's absurd and nonsensical and that's the worst of combinations. (also, not beta'd - that makes it even more unbearable).
[length] ~780 words (last time I checked)
[notes] dedicated to
_azuresky, who should have trusted me on that bet, and to
inalex, who deserves all my t00by luff.
[feedback] this is something totally new and different from what I usually write and, yes, I'm interested in hearing various opinions :)
Draco finds it a bit complicated, the way the entire structure is built. Brick-on-brick, Harry told him, keeps on telling him, and Draco wishes he were 11 years old again so he could stamp his feet obnoxiously.

01 He remembers sometimes the way pansies taste. He kissed her in fourth year and he kept her slightly spicy flavour in his mouth, hidden with great care behind his molars. And when he wakes up, in the middle of the night, with a horrible toothache, he’s all alone.
She was one of the last to die in the war - Draco started laughing when she dropped dead and didn’t stop before she was gone under a thick heavy blanket of earth and grass and a few pansies. Potter was silent all the way through and left with Granger and Weasley.
He sometimes wakes up in the middle of the night only to let out a heavy, tired wave of laughter. He fancies the faint echo of his voice is her girlish reply.

03 He was sitting under the bleachers when it struck, struck him. The bleachers turned to black ashes and Hogwarts would never be the same. For a couple of minutes (or hours or days or lives) he remembers the horror-struck look on Potter’s face when he found him snogging pansies under the very same bleachers. As if he’d never seen pansies kissing back…
… And then he wakes up to the same shocked stare, same thick glasses, same jutting shoulders. As if he’d never seen dragons dying.
‘Draco?’
and the song breaks

05 On that dark alley, under a shimmer of rain:
a) he waits.
b) he smokes.
c) he brushes stardust off his shoulders.
d) he sometimes looks up and curses the leaking stars.
e) he never meets Draco.
But he always comes back on the same dark alley, under the same (or very similar it doesn’t even make a difference) shimmer of rain because he’s seen Draco once here, moaning against the brick wall, and he thinks that, if he’s patient and if he looks closely at every brick in the wall, he can actually see a blond hair or an eyelash or a thread.

i saw you too but i’m stuck between those two bricks in the corner

07 An eternity ago (it seems so distant now), you caught his hand and didn’t let go. And he stared at you, understood the low tinge of your green for the first time, and kissed your hand back. And there was a little light circling his silhouette and for a second (or two or three or four or five or set go) you thought you two could pause in time and time would fast forward and end it quickly.
But he melted against you and you melted against the wall and his lips, his bright pansied lips crushed yours with a deafeningly low moan and the light gasped and turned off.
and time paused while you two fast forwarded and ended quickly

Why seven, he always asks, why not one. Isn’t it silly, he always says, that he can’t finish it, complete it with one word only. He’s stalling for time, he always concludes, he’s just a weak old man.
And you call him God.
