Hey Mal Kyle Jen and Dan i am yping down my notes so you all have an idea of what will be said tomorrow and so you can add or comment about what i already have written, this is basically what i am gonna type cept it will all be orginized and neat...

~How does the title refer to the poem? What is its significance? The title just states that this is the poem being written for English B, no real symbolism, pretty simple
~How does the poem fit into the ideal of harlem renaissance? Shows that blacks are not quite thought of as equal to whites "although you're older and white - and somewhat more free" And also that people of color are rapidly catching up with the status of the white man "you are white yet a part of me as i am a part of you."
~What Poetice devices are employed in the poem and how do they function in the poem? Alliteration " Bessie, bop, or Bach" connotation vs. dennotation- "so will my page be colored or white." Once again implying how he is colored but literally means his paper will not be whte after he has written on it. repetition- Hughes stresses throughtout the poem that he is colored, this repition also serves to be a main theme of "Theme for English B" he also continuously repeats how his teacher is white, therefore "better" than him
~What is the tone or mood of the poem? "i guess being colored doesn't make me not like the same things other folks like who are other races." - kind of sarcastic like he is proving a pint that is supposed to be obviouis
"Sometimes perhaps you don't want to be a part of me. Nor do i often want to be a part of you." - whites not better than black perhaps blacks see whites as lower than them, First three stanzas seem to speak about how colored people are not emotionally differant from whites, saying that the only difference is the color of their skin
~What is the format of then poem: blank or free verse? Value of a particular society (American) "you are white- yet a part of me , as i am a part of you. Thats American"
Tells a story- "and i come to the Y the eighth ave. Y where i take the elevator up to my room, sit down and write this page."

sorry if some of this doesnt make sense, when i type it up for real it will all makes sense and sound smart haha ok well leave any comments if you need to!
~Emma
