Sometimes when people [my mom] ask me what I am going to study in college and where I want to go so she knows which colleges she should mention at least once every ten minutes in a manner such as
"the kids at [college X] won't like you if you're messy. So maybe you should pick your shoes up off the stairs" or
"[college X] is not going to like it if you have bad grades so you should start Hamlet now. Right now."
I give her a variety of answers. Mostly I tell her that I am going to study linguistics because a] I do not really know what it is, just that I am really interested in it and b] it makes her angry because she doesn't know what it is. But sometimes I tell her I am going to study graphic design because once I made her some business cards and she liked the way I put her name off center.
I am not artistic! I am not graphic! I am not good at designing things! I like computers. I am not very good at them. But I can't draw a straight line on paper, only on a screen. I do like designing things and after two years of making posters using Microsoft Word I downloaded the demo version of Adobe Illustrator CS which I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO USE. The main tool is a pen that does not do anything logical. The demo has 29 days remaining! And so all day [we are talking all day. All. Day. The whole day.] I have been experimenting with my new toy only to yield a flower I made using a tutorial online and this poster. It's got pastel colors. You should probably tell me how to make it better.
