Well, it's Memorial Day, and it's been another day in my neck of the woods. Went to an antiques show on Tuesday and excercised the old second amendment rights. I had to do some reasearch afterwards to find out what it was, turns out it's an Italian gun, called the "Bronco". Made completely of steel, no wood anywhere on there. Short little sucker too, barrel only 16-1/2" long. Really unique mechanism; it's a single shot .22 with practically no moving parts. The entire barrel rotates upward on a rod that runs the length of the underside of the barrel. It's like some sort of modified breech-break model. Instead of dropping down on a hinge, it spins on a pivot. I thought it was kind of cool. And when I looked it up, it turns out I got a deal. I spend all yesterday cleaning it, as it had a couple of layers of grime on it. I won't claim it "shines like new money", but at least it doesn't look like it was just dredged up from the bottom of a river either. Took it out down to the field to try it out today; it shoots a treat. I wouldn't bet that it weighs more than three pounds; it looks like a small rifle sans wooden stock, but I can one-hand it with no problems whatsoever. It's like firing a big, awkwardly-shaped pistol.
In other news, Cowboy has managed to get himself aquainted with everyone and is learning the basics. Dad is training him like he trains all the dogs we've had, just like Grandad trained them, I assume. It's working better with Cowboy than with Jet, however, as he's a herding dog to begin with.
Looks like the surprise option isn't going to pan out, so I'll try and find a job in the area I suppose. I'm looking at a job at a bookstore/coffee shop called "Binding Time". Bit of a cutesy name, but I can live with it. Getting paid to sit around, smell coffee, and recommend books sounds like a good job to me. And hopefully I can finally get a job that pays more than thirty cents an hour. Although these jobs won't pay me to sleep either... hmm. Oh well.
