Spike and Anya are going back and forth like it's a comedy roast or something and not telling me what the hell is going on, all the while, we're supposed to be taking care of the coroner stuff and then the burial for Dawn. They went back and forth and all it made me think of was that they had had sex together and it angered me, especially with Dawn's lifeless and starting to seriously smell, body, in front of us.
As it turns out, they were throwing it around, that Spike had a soul and then Anya made a comment, that he was nothing like Angel, and I just felt nauseated. I couldn't tell if it was nausea caused by Dawn being dead, or if because I was feeling another Angel situation coming on. I rushed into the refrigerator, getting away from the two of them for a minute, thinking about it all, as I poured water down into my throat and eventually, my stomach.
SPIKE HAD A SOUL?!?
SPIKE had a soul.
"How did you get the soul? And be specific, Spike, because while we have to take Dawn to the coroner, I seem to remember that when you were last here, you tried to rape Buffy. That doesn't sound like somebody who's soulworthy. Did you like buy it? Trade some body's to some warlock just so that you could get a soul and make Buffy believe that you were worthy or are worthy of her now?"
That seemed to be the most viable option to me. Why else would he get a soul? He already had the chip. I picked Dawn up and the smell didn't bother me because I knew that it would be the last time that I would hold her and that this would be the last time that I would get to look at her beautiful, young face, even if it was puffy and swollen.
I got into the car. Anya followed and Spike manned the backseat with Dawn, her head on his lap, after he assured me that he had locked the door.
I drove away. "Okay, before you tell me what happened with your soul, and how you got it, Spike, because you aren't getting away without telling me, I think that we should iron out exactly how we're going to tell the hospital morgue people or whoever it is that we speak to, what happened. She's been dead for a couple of days, so they're going to wonder why we are just bringing her in now. Any thoughts, Anya?"
I had a couple of thoughts and of course, we would lie about the why and howfore, but it just didn't seem right to have to be doing this when talking about Dawn. Why couldn't people like Spike die instead of getting souls...well die again? This just wasn't right, and Spike having a soul, wasn't right either.
