Lastnight at the El Rey, Islands put on an amazing show.
Cadence Weapon opened, who was a fucking incredible rapper and was backed up by an incredible DJ.
Then Why? came on stage, whom I had mainly gone to see since I fucking love Yoni Wolf(Why?)'s work.
Then of course Islands came on and the music was great.
The El Rey has a nice set up so it sounded really fucking good
After they finished, Why? came on stage and said 'There are 7 band members, which means they are all 69'ing and one of them is masturbating in the corner, and if you are really loud, you can get them back out here before they ejaculate.'
And when they came out, they encored with Rough Gem and then Swans.
At the end of Swans, Nick lit a sparkler on his guitar at which point a staff member ran up and sprayed him with a fire extinguisher, and he just continued to play. At the end of the set, he yelled 'Fuck this place. Who wants to go outside?'
He then told us to make a path, and we followed him outside. Hundreds of us. And we took up the street and sidewalk and we crowded around him while he threw out fireworks and we all lit them off right in the street.
I then met Nick, one of the asian guys and the banjoist.
It was the most genuinely awesome show
