So, my adventures in New York City thus far...
This was the first time ever taking a train. It was more comfortable than expected, but not as smooth as I was led to believe. I thought it felt about the same as bus, but the background sounds are more soothing. I had tried to get a photo of every station I pulled through, but by the time I got to about Schenectady and Albany, it was too dark. Regardless, I made it safe and mostly sound in Penn Station. E, Rob, and Steph were waiting for me with a sign! And I was present with my Apartment Jones warming gift: messenger bag, agenda, mini pocket book of maps and lists and stuff, and soon to be getting a water bottle and a compass.
So from there, we were craving food. We went to a place called Death and Company. It was dark but stylish and cool. We ordered drinks first. I tried something called Pele's Blood. It was tasty. But then we were told the kitchen was closed. So I'm like... well, I'm gonna be drunk now; I've not eaten in twelve hours. But we had our drinks, I was tipsy, and we got directions from one of the waitresses to another place called Macao. They sold us on it when they said it had an opium den. It was indeed AWEsome. I don't know if it was opium den-y, as I've not studied those much, but the place had an amazing interior--AND THE BEST CHICKEN DUMPLINGS I HAVE EVER HAD. And not just because I was tipsy. They served a late night collection of oriental foods. We plan to go again when they have their full menu.
Next day! Monday. E and I went to Manhattan to locate where my interview would be. Done and done. We wanted to find food, but it was lunch hour, so we just headed home. I then ventured on my own--wheee!! I explored Fresh Meadows, bought myself dress shoes, and got a Subway sandwich. And jeebus, these are the most expensive shoes I've ever bought--$50. Well, $42 something because I got myself a Kohl's card. And omg their Kohl's! I could NOT find the door for so long... I don't know how to explain, but if you were here you'd understand.
Tuesday! The interview was... not what I was expecting. But, I got the internship. They day wound up being long, as I'm slowing as I'm typing now. I ended up working at the office for five hours, got lost trying to find my subway entrance, got on the correct bus but in the wrong direction, got into a neighborhood that I wasn't too comfortable with, but was able to get back on my bus, and home. Bleh. But still, I'm now the graphic design intern at Eco-Logic :D
And now I'm waiting for it to be close to 11pm so I can go meet E at the bus stop.
