Hi, LJ! I have failed you badly at updating these last few weeks. I'll aim to do a more in-depth exploration later, when I'm less tired, but here are recent highlights in vaguely chronological order:
- Five quarters of grad school down, one quarter to go! And this quarter, though busy, involves no night classes and fewer credits in general, so those of you who like to call/see me, I should be easier to get ahold of.
- Just kicked off spring break with a four-day camping trip to the Umpqua Hot Springs out by Totekee Lake, the Smith River in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, and the northern California coast. It was amaaaaaaaaazing. I spent four days surrounded by huge trees and natural bodies of water, with my cell phone off and nothing whatsoever to do with a computer. I'll likely post some pictures once my friend Lani has uploaded hers, and I'll attempt to give a longer account as the trip most definitely deserves it, but the very short version is that Jedidiah is one of those places you really, really ought to see in your lifetime. (And not to be a killjoy, but it's located in a state that suffers major fires every summer, so if I were you I wouldn't bank on being able to put the trip off indefinitely.) It will give you a deep case of tree joy.
- Today I saw my friends Les and James get married, and I'm just thrilled to bits for them. It was a beautiful, brief ceremony, and a long, hilarious reception, where I was a source of some entertainment for the groom's family and I got to spend time with several people I don't see often enough. Also, thanks to all of you who gave me wedding outfit advice: I apparently did all right, as the groom told me toward the end of the evening that he'd disappointed three different male guests who'd approached him by telling them (only quasi-correctly, but entirely to my benefit) that I batted for the other team.
All right, now off to sleep!
se,
of the good
