Yesterday I played on my first 4-on-4 Ultimate Frisbee tournament. It was AMAZING. I emailed a friend in Moncton who I assumed would have a team, and asked to join. Originally she had said no, but then one of the girls she had backed out. As wildly inexperienced as I am, I still played fairly well, and learned SO MUCH from playing with another different team. I'm not with my core summer group anymore. Creative differences/the captain's new girlfriend doesn't like me.
We started out seeded 5th of 7 teams, we weren't expected to do well at all. The first game we won 18-15. The second game we lost 12-13 in overtime, it was heartbreaking. we got reseeded, and had to play one of the top teams in the second pool. They expected to beat us, and honestly, those of us who knew the team expected to be beat. We won that one too 16-12. We were the little patchwork team from Fredericton, Moncton and Sackville.
The pools finished with that last game, and in the reseed, we were 4th overall. We had a quarter-final (won against UNB), a semi-final (lost to the eventual winners), and in going for bronze we played the team that we took to OT. They had 2 ringers by that point, and we'd played 5 games already. We were all pooped, but it was a VERY hard fought game. We ended up losing in OT again.
Here is our team pic. Taken right after our loss. Can't you tell? Holy crap that was amazing, and I can't wait to play in another tournament. I love this sport, in spite of how I got into it.
