Poem - falcon's flight

Aug 01, 2005 18:43

high above
on the liberating aire
soars a falcon
upon wings of life
and everywhere his sharp eyes look
he sees through the veils
and beyond the mysteries implore

swoop
swoop
swoop

higher and higher
into the air he rises
beyond the foreboding mountains
with their snowy peaks
where the climbers fight time
to beat the coming storm

leaving behind the green carpet
and climbing higher
to purer elevations
he ventures where only the bold dare
beyond the limits
of lesser flights

swoop
swoop
swoop

past the bounds
that the thermals may rise
far from the reaches of mild home
to the soaring majesty
of unconquered possibilities
where "impossible"
remains to be seen

up here, in the clear air
you can see forever
back, to the far reaches of memory
and forth, to the undecided futures
this is where the falcon has come
to forget the inevitable failures
and to see the impossible triumphs

here, seeing everything
and knowing nothing
the falcon has a moment of eternity
and enlightenment dawns
all is clear and revealed
nothing lays hidden to him
the pure beauty of truth has bloomed

taking everything in
a rush of nothing
he turns
to return to his world
to spread the great gift
he had discovered
he is struck by something immense
but so much smaller than himself

crunch
crunch
crunch

walking along a path
of broken stone
i wander, no destination needed
and none wanted
i found a feather, floating down
gently riding the breeze
a falcon's feather
soft and strong and beautiful
as if coming for me

looking up
far above me
a passing jet prowls the sky
scarring it with a white stroke
and the feather
weightless in the air
lands softly
in my open palm

sleeking back
the ruffled feather
i gaze upon it, admiring
feeling as though locked inside
is a message, in a bottle
but indecipherable to my mortal mind

so, placing the feather
behind my ear
i continue on, blind
perfectly unaware of the wonders
lost forever, in my hands
and the tragedy remains
unsung
