This ship needs to sail

Take this anchor from between my shoulder blades. I’ve carried your pain for too long. Your loss and failure has left my body in ruin. Your fear and hatred has shattered the soul my father had left gleaming and bright. I carried your weight as a child to lighten your load, to show you how much I cared. I carried your weight into high school and showed it to those around me, and was shown a world without that pain instead. I carried your weight into college, for fear of losing you. I carry your weight now for fear of your hatred being turned towards me. No more. I’ll take my love for you everywhere, but I have no room for fear or hatred in my life.
