Once again, Out of Order

Dear Arch-Rival,

How are things going in Sarrit right now? I've heard we're pulling out soon and I'd to hear some sort of confirmation on that. Opolis is still buzzing as always, at this current point in time the issue being the rising popularity of the Scientist Movement. Many of the younger Naturals are joining with them, Jem Scarborough among them. I'm not sure if you remember her, but she and I were in a few classes together.

In more personal matters, I'm getting along well enough. I've managed to find a new errand runner to replace Henry. While he many not be the brightest, he certainly is more cheerful. Everything seems more chipper with him around. Jacquelyn tells me she's met a boy named Silas in Sarrit, too. He's in the military there, I know, but other than that and an ad nauseum account of his fluttering lashes, I'm clueless, even on the subject of a last name.

Still, he's a wizard of your persuasion, so I thought you might've seen him around. I do understand that he works with lightning, though, rather than sonic energy, which I found interesting.

But I digress. The city is nearly quiet with you rousing a bar fight every other night, dearest, and I can hardly sleep from the lack of goings-on. The boredom is stifling and I need someone to stir things up.

Woefully Disinterested,

His Lordship, the Bored
---

His Majesty the Queen,

My heart reaches out to you, Jordan, on the issue of your boredom. I feel that I'm a kindred spirit, honestly; here in Sarrit the civilians are quiet and they tend to get irritated and go to war again if you start a bar fight.

It's terribly taxing and I'm sure that someone of your weak constitution would be suffering horribly under the stress, even with the lovely ocean air and the soothing weather. Everything's a little dry, though, and very foreign. Food here is all light and seems to consist mainly of olives. I don't really like olives.

In answer to your questions, though, the rumors are flying busily. I cannot confirm or deny the truth in said rumors, but I can tell you that I personally will be back in Opolis within the month.

Is your new scullery maid staying in Henry's old room or is he living somewhere else? I know you're short for space (and height too), but I'd love to stay for a bit. If not, I guess I can visit with someone else, or, Mother forbid, rent a room. Considering how much the king favors his wizards, you'd think he'd pay us more.

I'm sorry to hear that you have to listen to Jacquelyn's accounts of her new boy. I think I may have heard rumor of a Silas or two, wooing the socks off of all our unsuspecting women. If it's the one I'm thinking of, Shelly tells me he's also the proud owner or curling locks, rippling muscles and a dashing smile.

I know you're sister's here on scholarly business, but I daresay she's probably a bit distracted with so many shirtless men about. I've seen her once or twice and each time she's a bit more bubbly than the last. I'd imagine the sun is bleaching out her intelligence along with her hair. You know it's nearly a light brown now? I never thought I'd see a Yardley with anything other than black, excluding the time Audrey turned your hair pink for three weeks and none of the professors would turn it back.

Forever an old maid,

Mad Mal

Mallory,

You're really coming home? I'm terribly excited. Unfortunately- well, not unfortunately, but sadly- Matthias (my new...thing) is staying in the spare room and we're, as mentioned, short for space and everything else. I do think he's makes up for what I lack, though, in some cases. Oh, dear, that sounded terribly awkward, didn't it? Moving on!

Theoretically, we could clean out the basement, but it's a little dank and I'm a little worried about a magic leak. Matthias found a talking spider the other day and I suspect the drain I pour excess charm mixes down is coming apart. A section of it's probably turned to candy or something equally ridiculous. That happened to Mother once.

So, on second thought, unless you're dying to turn into a toad, perhaps you'd best find somewhere else to sleep.

Oh, but this is just great! Jacquelyn is finishing her studies next month, so she'll be home soon too. I hope she won't be too airheaded. She's expected to write a dissertation on magic abroad or whatever she's settled on this month when she returns. I think it was something to do with the different ways magic is effected based on climate and environment, or something equally uninteresting. She seems fairly excited about it, though I have noticed her enthusiasm is dwindling. Mother thinks it's amusing that she's so interested in what would normally fall under Naturals, but then, Jac has always been the inquisitive type.

Perhaps, just maybe, we can pin Jacinthe down long enough to have a bit of a family get-together. I went and visited Mother a week or two ago, as you may have noticed, seeing as how much I'm talking about her, and she really misses the two of them. I kind of do too. I'd like check and make sure Jacinthe isn't dead every once in a while. Demons are so fickle, you know.

Yours,

Jordan

PS

I know how you like teasing me, dear, but please do me a favor and don't bring Henry up, at least around Matthias. I'd hate for him to get the wrong idea about my intentions.

In explanation: I was bored.
