So I went and saw Atlas Shrugged yesterday with my friend Scott. The movie was just okay. Though well acted and true to the Ayn Rand’s book, it suffered I think from poor direction. By that I mean there were many parts which should have been omitted that would have kept the mystery integral to the story of “Who is John Gault?” This enigma falls flat by showing and explaining throughout the course of the film he exists and is the force behind the multitudes of disappearing businessmen, whom the government relies upon to both keep them afloat, at the same time restricting their activities.
My enjoyment of the movie was further compounded by 3 elderly people sitting directly behind us whom should have known better than to incessantly chatter throughout most of the movie. Their kind is precisely why I almost never go to movies anymore. If I do, it’s usually to a theater that limits the number of nabobs in it by the shear price of the tickets, like the Arclight Theaters. Alas, Atlas Shrugged was not one of those movies I thought would be much a danger, since the subject matter I though wouldn’t really appeal to the type of morons who like to ruin the viewing experiences for everyone around them.
After the movie Scott and I found a great brewery (Bootleggers Brewery) nearby which we sampled a couple their beers then headed over to this awsome pub called Heroes right in the middle of Fullerton, which served some excellent food and had a great selection of micro-brews.
Oh yeah, Happy Birthday Scott.
