Title: Time After Time (prologue)
Rating: R overall. PG for this part.
Pairing: Hanagata/Rukawa
Genre: romance, drama, angst.
Warnings: This fic contains YAOI.
Summary: Sometimes it just takes time to work out what you really
want, and now that Hanagata knows what he wants he's willing to
wait for Rukawa to work it out too.
Author's Notes: My desire to write for this pairing started when
I first read Crystal's Rodman/Rukawa fic years ago. There were
only a couple of lines in it that mentioned Hanagata as being an
ex-boyfriend of Rukawa's, but the idea stuck with me. Even more
so after writing '
No Rest For The Wicked'. So this fic is dedicated to Crystal, for being
such an inspirational writer (and not just for that one crazy
Rodman fic!).

He hated winter. It was cold, lonely, and it brought back
memories of a time when he had someone's warmth to share,
someone's warmth to stave away the chill. It made being alone
even harder, colder than it should be. And this winter looked
like it was going to be real cold.
Hanagata rubbed his hands together as he
stood up off the park bench to head home. But he was halted in
mid-step, seeing a familiar face heading in his direction. He
waved to the raven-haired man, calling out in greeting.
"Hi! "
...Hello.
"How are you?"
...Good.
"...How are things with you and
Sendoh?"
Good.
"...Thats good."
...You?
"Im okay. Got a new place.
Its small but cozy. You should visit me sometime."
...
"We were friends once Kaede, we
still can be."
...
"... So... How's the old flat?"
...Emptier.
"No new flatmates?"
No.
"Oh. Ok."
... Fujima seems happy with
Hasegawa.
"Oh... That's good to hear."
And you?
"Uh, no Im not seeing anyone.
Not since... then."
...Hanagata...
"I think you can call me Toru
now."
...Toru.
"... Kaede--"
I've got to go, sorry.
"Oh. Ok then. Give me a ring
sometime alright?"
Yeah. Seeya.

PLEASE NOTE: This fic may be confusing to read because there are
a lot of scenes and flashbacks that don't take place in
chronological order. So I've numbered each scene based on how the
events actually happen chronologically instead of how I placed
them in the fic. Originally I did start writing this in
chronological order, but then I realized it would be much more
interesting to reveal missing bits of information through
flashbacks and playing with time, so each time this conversation
from the prologue (which takes place between scenes 6 and 7) is
revisited throughout the fic it takes on new dimensions. I hope
it's not too confusing, but again if you need some kind of order,
please use the scene numbers as a guide.
