If Gabriel wasn't so distracted with what's changed, you're absolutely right, there would have been an "I told you so!" or two there. The angels are locked up tight in Heaven now...

Raphael and Gabriel are locked up in Heaven together...

Not good at all.

With Gabriel gone from Heaven for thirty-three years, it did get a lot colder. Without his warmth and love, Heaven is very, very lopsided. It's kind of like a square table. Take away one leg (Sammael), and it can still stand, but it's very fragile and easily unbalanced. Take away a second leg (Gabriel), and it falls over. Unfortunately, the angels aren't seeing Heaven as a table. They're seeing it as a problem they need to fix, but they have no idea how.

God is currently away, but he isn't Away. Not yet. He's been spending a lot of time outside of Heaven, but he hasn't disappeared fully. He'll be addressed in later chapters, don't worry!

Michael and Raphael won't kick Gabriel out because they need him. They need as much Archangel power as they can possibly get their hands on right now. Gabriel is safe. For now.
