I'm currently at my parents's place for Easter. We don't really celebrate in any way, shape or form (not even in the usual here's-chocolate way) but the folks sure appreciate the visit.
Yesterday I spent the day being the usual family tech support guy. I finally upgraded my mom's computer from Windows 98SE to Windows 2000. (I hate Windows XP to this day and won't install it anywhere unless forced to.) I actually like doing this kind of brainless work for family. It's the support phone calls that I hate (especially if they're from my aunt who know just enough to get herself into trouble). Thankfully, most of them know by now that I'll usually just tell them that it isn't a problem that is easily fixed over the phone and they'll just wait until I visit (except the aforementioned aunt, she still calls at least once a month and keeps me on the line for usually around an hour *sigh*).
Also went to the optometrist yesterday. Getting new glasses (first time in over 5 years). Good thing I'm insured to some extent because $600 bucks is a lot for glasses. But then, I could have gotten much cheaper ones. That ain't me though, so I of course went for the $300 frames and the auto-darkening glass. It's a 3-for-1 deal so my sister is getting glasses as well as contact lenses. (I could never fathom getting contact lenses. Sticking my fingers in my eyes every morning? Thanks but no thanks.) We're splitting the bill or what the insurance won't pay according to the proportion of what we would have paid if we'd been alone. Should get the new glasses next week or the week after.
I'm thinking of upgrading to a paid LJ account. I've been reading up on CSS layout and I'd like to apply my new knowledge to something. A LJ layout seems to fit the bill. I guess $20 a year isn't all that much money and it might prompt me to actually update more often. Plus, 30 icons!
